Darwin Centre

Referrals

If you are thinking of making a referral please contact us on 01223 534430.

We are now nationally commissioned and accept all referrals that have been agreed with the local SCG commissioner. We are also able to accept urgent referrals pending agreement as long as the referral is accompanied by a signed Form 1 "referral for access assessment" (available to download at the bottom of this page under Further information). Please telephone us first on 01223 534430 to discuss your referral and check bed availability. All telephone referral must then be followed up with a completed NHSE Referral form, which can be be posted: Darwin Centre, Block 19, Ida Darwin, Fulbourn, Cambridge, CB21 5EE.

Criteria for referral

We accept referrals for young people aged from 13-18  who are suffering from mental health problems that cannot be managed by CAMH community services such as:

  • Complex developmental or psychiatric disorders
  • A severe psychiatric disturbance, severe emotional and/or mental difficulties
  • A risk of suicide or serious deliberate self harm or harm to others

The Darwin Centre is not for young people who are undergoing a psychological crisis which would be more appropriately managed in a social care setting or within core CAMH emergency on call services. We welcome informal conversations about possible referrals. Referral meetings are held weekly where all new referrals are discussed and recorded.
