Trauma Informed System

MHLDA Partnership and becoming a Trauma Informed Care system Roundtable event: 15 May

The event brought together leaders and influencers from across the local health, social care and wider community economy of services in order to garner strategic ownership and support, to commence the design of a road map towards a “Trauma Informed System Approach”. The event provided the opportunity for system partners to understand the current situation for Cambridgeshire & Peterborough, identify areas of opportunity and consider how we work together.

Jan Thomas, CEO of the Integrated Care Board for Cambridgeshire and Peterborough opened the event and guest speakers included Emmerline Irving, Head of Improving Population Health, NHS West Yorkshire Integrated Care Board and Michelle Butterfly, Trauma Practice and Educator Lead, London Borough of Camden, who both shared their experiences of becoming a Trauma Informed Care System

Following the event, a Trauma Informed Steering Group was established to take forward the findings and next steps

We were extremely fortunate to have secured the support and service of Prof Gordon Harold (inaugural Professor of the Psychology of Education and Mental Health at the University of Cambridge), who led the delivery of thisTrauma team workshop programme.

Gordon has previously held appointments as the Andrew and Virginia Rudd Chair and Professor of Psychology at the University of Sussex, the Alexander McMillan Chair and Professor of Childhood Studies at the University of Otago, and Professor of Developmental Psychopathology at Cardiff University; he is a key international leader in this field of work

The workshop was well attended by system partners across the system, which focussed on Cambridgeshire & Peterborough becoming an effective, efficient and compassionate Trauma Informed Care System.

The first part of the day reviewed research relating to the impacts of specific family relationship dynamics and outcomes for children and young people. With the second part of the day provided an opportunity for local service provider/stakeholder opportunities for future collaboration to create and embed a responsive, collaborative, inclusive, safe and empowering evidence-based trauma informed culture across the local system.
