How our service can help you
The Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) service provides assessment, diagnosis and treatment for adults with acquired communication, voice, fluency and swallowing disorders.
Patients are seen on an inpatient, outpatient and domiciliary basis. The team also provide telephone advice and support to families and carers. Home visits are available for patients where it is helpful to see them in their own homes to make swallowing assessments at meal times, or if the patient is unable to travel.
Referrals may be due to a wide range of medical diagnoses, including stroke, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, motor neurone disease, dementia and some ear, nose and throat (ENT) conditions. The service offers an open referral system, although patients with voice disorders require an ENT assessment prior to a speech and language therapy referral.
