Top green award for Darwin Nurseries
Darwin Nurseries and Farm Shop has won a prestigious international environmental award.
They have been presented with a Gold Award for Environmental Best Practice which recognises their ongoing commitment to sustainability.
Sandie Cain, Team Manager, said: “Our staff and coworkers are proud to receive this award. We have used therapeutic horticulture on our 7.5 acre site to promote sustainability and biodiversity. From recycling animal bedding and waste, developing no dig gardening, moving to peat free plant production and the use of bio controls for pest management, we have developed a culture where people, animals, plants, and resources are valued.”
Darwin Nurseries and Farm Shop involves colleagues from CPFT working alongside those with learning disabilities and mental health challenges where they learn new skills and independence. They were nominated for the Green Apple Environment Awards by David Tucker, the Trust’s Waste Energy and Sustainability Manager.
