Pulmonary rehab team passes accreditation first time!

CPFT's Pulmonary Rehabilitation Team is the only service in the country that has passed a national accreditation scheme first time with no actions.

The team (pictured above), which is county-wide, has spent three years preparing for the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Services Accreditation Scheme (PRSAS) - a programme to improve the quality of pulmonary rehabilitation services throughout the UK. The accreditation is compulsory for all services to complete by 2027. It has been running for five years and so far only 16 other services in the country have achieved accreditation status.

The Pulmonary rehabilitation service supports patients with confirmed chronic lung conditions such as COPD, Interstitial Lung Disease and Bronchiectasis to improve their quality of life and breathlessness. It is a six-week programme, where patients attend classes twice a week.

Erin Sales, Cardiac and Respiratory Services Operational Lead, said: "The team is over the moon and special thanks must go to Bianca Bird, the team lead, who deserves all the credit for being the driving force behind this process.

"We are the 17th service to pass and the only service in the country to pass first time, with no actions. In the east of England, there are only two other accredited services, and no others in our county. This accreditation means we can continue providing an exemplary service and perhaps support wider system colleagues who have not achieved this status."

Erin said that the team is very excited to now embed all of the changes and QI projects it has undergone as part of this process into its business as usual.

She added: "We are also very grateful for the support of the wider trust, particularly the clinical effectiveness team, performance and analytics team, clinical systems, practice development team and the QI team."
