Patients at Trust to get extra-special festive treat thanks to ward clerk Zoe

Patients at a ward run by staff at Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust are to get an extra special Christmas surprise this year.

Those being treated at the Intermediate Care Unit, based within the City Care Centre in Peterborough, will each get an individually wrapped shoe box packed with treats.

It’s the idea of ward clerk Zoe Osborne who has spent weeks gathering all the presents.

Zoe said: “Every patient that is on our ward on Christmas day will get a present regardless of whether they get visitors or not so they each feel like they’ve got their own personal bit of home.”

The Intermediate Care Unit is 34-bed ward providing rehabilitation to patients to enable them to return home following their discharge from an acute hospital.

The shoe boxes contain a mixture of gifts including shower gel, hand cream, puzzle books, chocolates and much more.

Co-ordinated by Zoe, all the items have been donated by fellow staff, visitors and patients.

Ward manager Louise Florence said: “Zoe has been amazing doing so much fundraising. It was her idea and she’s worked really hard to get all the donations.

“She’s wrapped all the boxes herself and everyone here is so proud of her for making Christmas so special for those patients who will be here over the festive period.”

CPFT, which employs more than 4,500 staff, provides community physical health services for older people and adults with long term conditions, mental health services, children community services in Peterborough and learning disability services. The Trust is also renowned for its research and development work.
