Our nurse Trinia is a winner at BBC mental health show awards
Trinia Conlon – an advanced nurse practitioner with Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust - has been crowned a winner in BBC Radio 4’s All In The Mind Awards.
Trinia (pictured), who works for the Trust's Cambridge Adult Locality Team, which provides treatment to those with moderate to severe conditions, won the Professional Award at a special ceremony in London.
She was nominated by a former patient, Rae, who she worked with for four years following a diagnosis of borderline personality disorder.
Collecting the award from programme host Claudia Hammond, Trinia said: "As health professionals we always wonder if we are doing enough. I really love my job so to have Rae recognise that is amazing."
Service manager Maggie Page said: “Trinia utterly deserves this. She is completely dedicated to supporting patients, and the team and I are so proud of her.”
Trinia was one of three finalists in the Professional Award and the awards evening was broadcast on Radio 4 on Tuesday, 27 June.
Ahead of the ceremony, All In The Mind presenter Claudia Hammond recorded a special interview with Trinia and Rae which aired on Tuesday, 14 June at 9pm and can be heard again on BBC Sounds.
Rae told the programme that following her diagnosis Trinia had “listened, looked me in the eye, and made me feel human - not just another name on the list”.
Rae said: “BPD [borderline personality disorder] is complex. It baffles me at times. Because of her I’m still alive – I value myself. I’m not alone and I can hopefully give help to others.
“All my life I’ve never felt acknowledged. Trinia changed that, yet she doesn’t even know it.”
Asked how she felt about Rae’s nomination and the tribute she had paid to the care she had received, Trinia said: “I want to cry – I’m a bit speechless.
“To be honest, I think a lot of it is more about Rae’s determination to keep on picking herself back up and keep trying. I’m a bit overwhelmed really by that.”
